Bundles of summer goodness heading to @old_soul_pizza available from 2:30 today. These are for anyone to grab and this is a weekly drop - just been too goat crazy to post about it. So have some delicious pizza and beer treat yourself to summer flowers.
New friend found in the Monarda. From afar thought it was a hummingbird but up close assuming it's a moth like creature - anyone know? I've got more Monarda than I can cut so now it's become mostly a little wildlife hedge.
Got a spring in my step this Monday because the Lisianthus has finally started to bloom. These hardy seedlings had their heat and light cut off for two weeks in February and sat on a freezing cold window sill waiting for our electric to come back. I had doubts. But here they come.
We're here people - basking in the August rain. Join us!
Creme de Cognac dahlias getting two hooves up from Chickpea and Garbanzo. Won these tubers in the raffle @pnwcfg meet-up in February from @fredcgloeckner . They were my only companions on the snowy road home from Corvallis. They kept me company while we were stuck in the snow in Cottage Grove for two nights. I'm just saying we've seen some things. Mostly CHiPs reruns on motel TV. They're a bit short in the stem but I can't hold that against them.
Guess who's not getting any work done? The first two of our goat herd arrived last night - the golden twins Chickpea and Garbanzo. So chill, so content, so much fun to hang out with. Fencing in a big old run for them today and then back to flowers. I swear!
The Rudbeckia party is really taking off. They're a sure sign of summer, as is wildfire season, unfortunately. We've got some weird light and smoke blowing in from the Canyonville wildfire about 30 miles south of us. We are absolutely fine and prepping as normal for @umpquavalleyfarmersmarket tomorrow. Hoping the firefighters can get the fire contained and no lives or homes are lost. If the rumors are true much grousing and swearing going on here about illegal campfires - it's a tinderbox out there people. Think about it!
Bouquet subscription drop heading to @old_soul_pizza - available today from 2 to 4. There will be a few extra bouquets available for $15 to grab and go if you feel like your life is needing even more beauty. Pay me through PayPal.Me/howlandwhistle or drop me an email and I can invoice you online. If none of that means anything to you just direct message me and we can figure it out. I trust you. NOTE - the good folks @old_soul_pizza will also take payment because they're sweet like that!
Where's Doris? This smart girl found the only shade in the flower field. I needed the company while planting out my mini gourds. We're both dreaming of autumn weather and baby pumpkins 🍁🎃
In the face of serious deer pressure these guys saw me through. Forgot how much I love Drumstick Allium, now they are my heros. Wonder if I could make a go with All Alliums Flower Farm? 🚫🦌 Finally got fully fenced to 6 feet and encouraging regular dog marauding. Maybe we will have Dahlias this summer?
This little guy has stolen my heart and lots of my focus. Introducing Peanut, the cuddliest runt. Peanut and 3 of his handsome herdmates are joining our family in August. We have lots of fencing and housing work ahead to make their transition a happy one. But we're looking forward to their assistance with brush cutting and adding fertility to the flower fields.
Excited to announce a new pick up day and spot for the Summer Bouquet Subscription. The lovely people @old_soul_pizza will host Thursdays 2 to 4. If you're in downtown Roseburg and want a summer of flowers sign up! There's still a few weeks before the season starts so grab a spot. Link in my profile. Tonight @old_soul_pizza is also hosting Pints for a Cause with @ninkasibrewing . Funds raised will benefit Double Up Food Bucks @umpquavalleyfarmersmarket . Great pizza, great beer and more fruit and veg for lower income households - get down there!
Sweet Peas are popping!Harvesting twice a day if the heat doesn't scare me off. Bunches tomorrow @umpquavalleyfarmersmarket and a few teeny tiny vases from @whistlepostpottery
How did I fail to mention this?! Two markets ago @miss_douglascounty came to @umpquavalleyfarmersmarket to spread the word of fresh, healthy food for kids. She also came and took a lovely photo with me. Oh yeah, she's the glamorous one in the crown and sash in case you were confused 😆
Fresh off the vine and heading to your nose tomorrow @umpquavalleyfarmersmarket . These sweet peas are intoxicating and loving the rain as much as I am.
Still playing catch up from our time away. But being away made me realize I'd rather be behind but having a good time than ahead of the curve and stressed. New rule - always, always make time to take the dogs swimming no matter what chores the day ahead holds.
Final leg of our journey and I'm missing the flowers and our dogs like mad. These tulip sculptures hit the flower spot but still looking for strange dogs to cuddle.
Good night, Mull. Good night, lambs. Good night, shakey hand that's been living it up since Cava at lunch.
Sound on for maximum enjoyment! Change to usual scheduling - I won't be @umpquavalleyfarmersmarket for the next two Saturdays. Against all better judgement I've left the flower farm in May. No one was thinking of a flower farmer's schedule 50 and 70 years ago when my husband and mother in law were being born. After months of stress and worry about the timing I just had to let go. And I'm so very glad I did! Somehow we've got a sunny week in Mull with spring lambs, white sandy beaches, Highland Cattle, beautiful walks and views. It's a sensory overload and I feel so much better for it. Hey farmers, if you get the chance to take a break grab it.
Is it wrong to play favorites? I love this golden ranunculus guy on the left so much I've started growling at anyone who looks at it. I swear I won't go feral if you really, really want it but I do plan on taking it home with me.
